The showrunners previously helmed the critically acclaimed German series Dark for the streaming platform, and 1899 appears to be something that viewers of bo Odar and Friese’s other work will enjoy.

What Will ‘1899’ Be About?

1899 is set in the time period the show is named after, and it takes place on a migrant steamship which is heading to New York City from the continent.

While they are out at sea, they discover another migrant ship that has been left adrift. When they investigate further, they realize that something is amiss as all the passengers have disappeared and strange happenings begin to take place.

In Netflix’s official description of the series it is said that “what they will find on board, will turn their passage to the promised land into a horrifying nightmare.”

Who Will Star in ‘1899’?

1899 will see bo Odar and Friese reunite with some members of the cast who appeared in Dark, such as Andreas Pietschmann.

The show will also see them work with actors who hail from all over Europe, such as Miguel Bernardeau from Spain, Emily Beecham from the U.K. and Maciej Musiał from Poland.

1899’s cast also includes Aneurin Barnard, Anton Lesser, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Rosalie Craig, Clara Rosager and Maria Erwolter.

Martin Greis-Rosenthal, Yann Gael, Mathilde Ollivier, José Pimentão, Isabella Wei, Gabby Wong, Jonas Bloquet, Fflyn Edwards and Alexandre Willaume also star in the drama.

Yes, a trailer for 1899 was revealed on Monday, October 24, ahead of the show’s release in mid-November.

The teaser trailer gave viewers their first look at the period drama and the many layers of horror that appear to be in the story.

While the preview clip teases part of the tale, it certainly seems like there is much more to the story than meets the eye and many more mysteries to be solved.
