This second special, released on HBO Max, will come out on November 19, and will focus on the stories of Princess Bubblegum (Hynden Walch) and Marceline the Vampire Queen (Olivia Olson). This news, however, has left some fans wondering what happened to Adventure Time’s previous main characters, Jake (John DiMaggio) and Finn (Jeremy Shada) and whether they died at the end of the show.

Luckily for Finn and Jake fans, the pair will be back in one of the upcoming episodes of Distant Lands. There are two specials left, one of which is titled “Wizard City” and will see Peppermint Butler (Steve Little) go to wizard school, and the other of which is “Together Again,” which will focus on Finn and Jake.

Speaking to TVLine, Adventure Time: Distant Lands executive producer Adam Muto said of this: “It would have been hard not to do something substantial with Princess Bubblegum and Marceline, and even Finn and Jake. If they didn’t show up at all, it would feel like we weren’t totally connecting it to the main story.”

The official HBO Max synopsis for “Together Again” reads: “Finn and Jake [reunite] to rediscover their brotherly bond and embark on the most important adventure of their lives.”

This confirms that, unlike Finn and Jake’s brief appearance in “BMO,” “Together Again” is set after the events of the Adventure Time finale. In the closing credits of that episode, Finn and Jake were showed to have survived the big battle and were seen sitting by the lake. Finn was seen without the mechanical arm he’d lost, suggesting he was ready to give up adventuring for the time being.

However, in the poster for Distant Lands, he is seen with a new mechanical arm, suggesting that he will be very ready for one last adventure.

The pair, however, are not expected to cameo in “Obsidian” as they did in “BMO.” This was confirmed by Muto during Adventure Time’s virtual Comic-Con panel this year. Instead, that special will introduce a new character called Glassboy (Michaela Dietz), who has “elements of Finn, if they were more extreme.”

Adventure Time: Distant Lands returns to HBO Max on November 19 with “Obsidian.” The release dates for “Wizard City” and “Together Again” have not been announced but are expected in 2021. All of the original episodes of Adventure Time are streaming now on Hulu and HBO Max.
