Bugs and Fish Leaving in April

Before getting to the new additions, it’s important to know that there are a few creatures in the Critterpedia that you won’t be able to find anymore now that April is done with. Here’s a quick recap.

Fish

Blue Marlin [Returns in July]Tuna [Returns in November]Dab [Returns in October]

Bugs

Tarantula [Returns in November]

That last name on the list may be a bit of a shock given how infamous Tarantula Island has become in the month since New Horizons’ launch, but luckily it’s being replaced by something very similar.

May Bug & Fish Catching Tips

Now that you know what to look for, here are some tips for finding some of the most valuable critters debuting in May.

Angelfish: This is what an Angelfish shadow looks like. It’s deceptively small, but it will pay you dividends to watch the tiny shadows for a while.

Giant Trevally: The Giant Trevally looks like this. It’s a rare spawn because it hangs out off piers. You’ll probably need to craft some bait by digging up clams to get this one.

Mahi-Mahi: It’s the same size shadow and same tactic as the Trevally. Just get a lot of bait and prepare to grind.

Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing: This is what it looks like, and it’s caught just like any butterfly. Put lots of flowers on your island, and you’ll have no problem finding one. You don’t even have to sneak up on it.

Banded Dragonfly: The Banded Dragonfly looks like this. The key to securing one of these speedy bugs is to corner it and catch it with your net. It moves in three short bursts, so you may be able to swoop in and grab one each time the pattern resets.

Rosalia Batesi Beetle: This is what it looks like. It spawns on stumps, so, you want it, chop down lots of trees with your Axe and leave the stump there. Sneak up on it and swing your net.

Scorpion: These are caught pretty much the exact same way as the Tarantula. You must sneak up on them, and slowly inch forward once it lowers its tail. As long as you’re patient enough, you’ll get close enough to swing your net. Another method is to build a straight line of holes and then agitate the Scorpion so it chases you. Go to your wall of holes and jump over them. The Scorpion will get stopped by the holes, which allows you to swing your net.

That’s all there is to know about the May bugs and Fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch.
