The highlight reveal of 2020’s event is the Shadow Royale LTM. In a slight twist from last year’s Shadowfall concept, this time, the Shadows and Legends work together to stay alive. When a teammate dies, they transform into a super-powerful Shadow that benefits from increased movement, double jumps, a brutal melee attack and the ability to wallrun. Perhaps most critical of all is that Shadows have unlimited respawns. This facet has a huge impact on Shadow Royale, because it means your Squad continues fighting as long as one Legend remains in the fight. The idea is largely a remix of last year’s festivities, but it’s an exciting shakeup nonetheless.

The same can be said for Fight or Fright 2020’s resurrected skins, which are essentially palette swaps of the designs featured in 2019. The trailer shows off darker takes on Protector of the Patch Bloodhound, Monster Mashed Gibraltar, Mistress of Evil Wraith and Last Laugh Caustic. You can see the styles in all their glory below.

Alongside the trailer, Respawn also teased that Fight or Fright 2020 will feature spooky challenges with unique rewards, but those have yet to be detailed further at the time of this article’s publication. Just like the most recent Apex events, however, we imagine there will be a bespoke prize track with special treats for those who perform well in Shadow Royale.

While Halloween events are almost always fun in live-service games like Apex, there’s no denying some players may feel a bit bummed by the lack of totally new content. The remixes of old skins and modes sound fun enough, but something entirely fresh would’ve been a lot more exciting. We imagine this semi-bland setup is likely a result of the fact that we are just a few weeks away from the presumed start of Season 7. As Respawn performs the final polish passes on the update, it’s possible its developers couldn’t concentrate fully on Halloween. Regardless, there should be enough here to keep players busy for the next few weeks.

Apex Legends is available now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
