Discussion of the Apex Halloween event spiked earlier this week when Pathfinder voice actor Chris Edgerly mentioned upcoming festivities in an interview with Dexerto. “The Halloween event coming up is going to be simply amazing,” Edgerly teased. “I recorded some new stuff for a short for it, where Pathfinder has a much bigger role.” He also hinted at the possibility of additional skins, saying “They [Respawn] let me ad lib quite a bit so we’ll see what they kept in — and get ready to see some creepy, scary, kick-a– designs.”
Since then the game’s Season 3 update has gone live, and dataminers instantly began poring over its files for hints about what’s coming next. To the surprise of no one, Respawn left lots of clues for interested parties to find. Here’s a quick recap of everything we know so far.
At least internally, the Halloween event is being called Fight or Fright. Much like the leaked Fire and Ice namesake of Season 3, however, it’s possible this may change once the promotion begins. Aside from new skins, a highlight feature of the event is a special mode tentatively called Shadowfall. Leaks from That1MiningGuy reveal the mode appears to take inspiration from the Ewok Hunt mode in EA’s own Star Wars Battlefront II.
“Solo Legends fight to the death but with a dark twist - when Legends die, they are reborn on the Shadow Squad, an ever-growing faction of dark Legends who return from the dead to haunt their living counterparts with increased mobility and brutal melee attacks. The last 10 Living Legends will join forces to try to escape while the Shadow Squad attempts to stop them at all costs.”
To make things even spooker, the matches will reportedly be played on a special night version of Kings Canyon. So, those who are already missing the old map will have a chance to experience it in a totally new way. Paired with the match type are also challenges for killing Legends and Shadows, as well as escaping on a dropship at the end of a game. Fans can see video footage of the dropship in the tweet below.
It’s also possible there may be additional modes beyond Shadowfall as well, as miners have previously found evidence of giant spiders and other PvE threats. These may, however, be repurposed for Shadowfall or discarded entirely.
Apex Legends Fight or Fright Skins
The purpose of playing through this new mode and its associated objectives is, of course, to unlock special skins for the game’s various Legends. Here are some images of the presumed Halloween designs we’ve seen so far.

Lifeline Heirloom Set: This special cosmetic can be earned by unlocking all 224 Fight or Fright cosmetics. The set will be added to Apex Packs once the event ends.
As with all leaks these images aren’t final, nor does this list account for all the Fight or Fright cosmetics players can expect to unlock. That being said, Apex Legends appears to be getting in the Halloween spirit in the best possible way.
Apex Legends is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. There’s no official word on when the Fight or Fright Halloween event will begin.
