As far as the major features of this new ARK update are concerned, the two main points of focus are the Stegosaurus and Woolly Mammoth. For those who haven’t been keeping track of the TLC reveals over the past few months, the Mammoth gets an AoE buff from passengers who play the War Drum on its updated Saddle. Its roar debuffs enemies when in range, and it also has new methods for harvesting wood and thatch as well. Elsewhere in the patch, the Stegosaurus has three different plate modes that each offer various buffs and harvesting advantages. Secondary features like the improved taming HUD and insect breeding weren’t discussed as heavily, but they’re greatly appreciated nonetheless.
Speaking of breeding, quite possibly the most critical quality-of-life change in this update amounts to multiple settings tweaks that shorten the length of breeding time. While it stops short of giving fans the blanket breed increase they’re looking for, Wildcard has taken some steps to improve the highly criticized shortcoming. In that time, developers also made Wyverns breedable too, which means many more chances to farm some of ARK’s coolest critters. Add in less noticeable changes like the big Diplo buff and increase in Element yields, and it’s hard to find anything to dislike about these patch notes. Provided the new features are bug-free and there aren’t any hidden nerfs, ARK update 2.40 sounds like a nice feature-first overhaul while fans wait for Genesis Part 2.
ARK: Survival Evolved is available now on PC, Xbox One, Switch, Mac and Linux.
