Both Spencer, 27, and Wright, 26, joined the cast of Season 8 of Bachelor in Paradise when it began earlier this year, and initially struck up a romantic connection which was cut short when Wright abruptly left the beach after just a few days.
Bachelor in Paradise, which started in 2014, features previous The Bachelor and The Bachelorette contestants travel to a romantic destination for a second chance at finding love, with singletons like Logan Palmer, Michael Allio and Danielle Maltby on the cast alongside Wright and Spencer.
Since Wright’s sudden exit Spencer has pursued brief romances with co-stars Brittany Galvin, Jessenia Cruz and, most recently, Ency Abedin, but, as he confessed on the latest episode, his heart has remained with Wright all this time.
The surprising admission came after Cruz decided to confront Spencer over his treatment of her when he dumped her in favor of Abedin.
“I’d really like an answer and I’m feeling disheartened. I want him to know how invested I was in this process and that the way he handled things was a bit hurtful and insensitive,” she told the cameras.
Cruz and Spencer then got into a discussion about Spencer’s actions throughout his time on the show but were interrupted by Abedin, who pulled Spencer to the side.
Abedin was clearly unhappy with Spencer and Cruz’s conversation but Spencer told her that this was a chat he needed to have. Spencer and Cruz then continued to go back and forth about what went wrong in their romance and why he wasn’t fully into it.
Spencer then came clean about how he was really feeling, saying: “My heart’s still with someone else. Teddi. That’s the reason why. I have nothing here. I tried with you, Brittany, with Ency. I can’t move on until I get clarity and I don’t have it. I could not get to a point where I felt anything crazy [for someone].”
Spencer, despite Abedin’s pleas, then exited the show, saying: “I knew what I came here for and I lost it in the first four days. Love is just the most powerful thing in the world and when you can share it with someone you cannot live without, that’s what I’m going to go for. I wasn’t there 100 percent. I needed to get to the bar I set with Teddi and no one could match it. When she left, I felt like I was never the same.”
Taking to social media after the emotional scenes aired, some fans were happy for Spencer and praised him for being true to himself and leaving the show to potentially to pursue a romance with Wright.
“Not Teddi still got Andrew heart, I need them together real bad #bachelorinparadise,” wrote on fan on Twitter, as another posted: “tbh it’s cute as f*** that andrew still has feelings for teddi #bachelorinparadise.”
Other fans weren’t so happy with Spencer’s decision, questioning why it took him so long to voice the fact that he still has feelings for Wright.
Posting on Twitter, one fan wrote: “Sorry, but I ain’t letting Andrew off the hook. If he knew he was still not over Teddi, running thru three women and using them as aspirin for his emotional pain, wasn’t the move. He should have taken his ass home to collect himself. #bachelorinparadise.”
While another said: “So Andrew chose to play as a F*** boy with whichever girl was interested in him, instead of accepting his true feelings for Teddi #BachelorInParadise.”
“Andrew should have been left the moment teddi left but he probably didn’t wanna give up the free vacation. #BachelorinParadise #bip,” added a third unimpressed viewer.
Bachelor in Paradise did not give an update on Spencer and Wright’s current relationship, and neither have posted anything about each other on social media.
No doubt all will be revealed at the two-part finale that will air on November 21 and 22, which will also a feature a cast reunion to dissect the events of the season.
Bachelor in Paradise airs at 8 p.m. ET Mondays and Tuesdays on ABC.
