Warzone
Free to all players, whether you have Modern Warfare or not. Two available modes: Battle Royale and PlunderBattle Royale: Fight to be the last squad standing while escaping the deadly gas in the swiftly closing circle with up to 150 players. Plunder: The race is on to collect the most in-match Cash by looting across the map, taking down enemies to steal their Cash and completing in-match Contracts. Verdansk map: Multiple named zones and 300 points of interest. Landmarks include Gorengard Lumber Yard and Gora Dam. Vehicles: Vary in protection, speed, seating and off-road ability. ATV – two seater, provides minimal protection, good at offroading, fast. Tactical Rover – four seater, provides minimal protection, solidly fast, solid at off-roading. SUV – four seater, provides good protection, medium speed, not ideal for off-roading. Cargo Truck – holds the squad plus equipment, excellent protection, not for off-roading, slowest. Helicopter – four seater, decent coverage, flies. Gulag: Eliminated players are taken as a Prisoner of Warzone. This puts them in a 1v1 arena where they fight for a chance to respawn. Respawns are also earned by completing in-match Contract missions for Cash. Contracts: Activated one at a time for Cash, loot and gameplay advantages such as seeing circle collapse locations in advance. Scavenger Contracts: Find and open Supply Boxes. Recon Contracts: Secure a location in Domination fashion. Buy Stations: This is where Cash is spent in Battle Royale. Marked as a shopping cart on the map. Buy Killstreaks, Self-Revive Kits, Redeploy Tokens and more. Plunder adds the Cash Deposit Balloon as a place to store accrued Cash for teammates. Crossplay: Progression and cosmetics from Modern Warfare carry over. This is even true for those who don’t own Modern Warfare but buy the game later. There are no level caps.
In other words, Warzone is essentially the Call of Duty battle royale game fans have been waiting for. While Blackout offered a taste of what the mode might offer when Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 released in 2018, Warzone acts as the culmination of those lessons learned when applied to a completely new product. Blackout provided a polished gameplay foundation to expand upon, but Warzone takes just about everything one step further with a higher player count, improved graphics engine and a litany of previously unseen mechanics that separate it from stiff competitors like Fortnite and Apex Legends. Perhaps most crucially, the fact that Warzone is being offered as a free download shows just how confident Activision is in the finished product.
We’ll update this article with more patch notes as they become available.
