In other words, like most mid-season updates for Modern Warfare and Warzone, today’s patch is all about its new content. While we would’ve liked to have seen a little more love for multiplayer beyond the new weapon, there’s a lot to do throughout the entire game thanks to the new event and the quest toward unlocking that sweet gun. Also interesting is the idea of bringing Gunfight to the newly opened Stadium just a few weeks after players have memorized the ins and outs of the revised location. The King Slayer Warzone variant also sounds pretty fun considering Call of Duty’s pedigree in TDM, but it’s obviously nothing we haven’t seen in Battle Royale before. In a lot of ways the update 1.26 content is predictable but just enough to keep fans entertained nonetheless.

Which makes it all the more interesting that there aren’t as many weapon balance tweaks as we anticipated given that the original Season 5 update didn’t feature much balancing either. The most curious change in patch 1.26 is the nerf to thermal scopes, which seems somewhat unnecessary in the current meta. Might IW be looking to add some snow maps or night maps in the future that would alter these prospects? It’s certainly a possibility. Beyond that solitary tweak, though, Modern Warfare’s most recent patch is heavy on boring bug fixes.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
