Call of Duty: Warzone received its big Rebirth Island update on Wednesday, and it’s causing big problems for players who were hoping to enjoy a fair game on Verdansk or the new map. If it seems like you’re getting killed by invisible players lately, unfortunately that’s true.
First evidence of Warzone’s invisibility glitch surfaced Wednesday afternoon, as the game’s subreddit slowly filled with posts from users describing strange death occurrences across Rebirth Island and Verdansk in Plunder, Resurgence and traditional Battle Royale alike. Despite being less than a day from when the source post was created, it now has more than 400 replies confirming the issue.
While we won’t go into precise detail on how to trigger the glitch, it involves switching seats in a specific way just before a helicopter explodes. If done right, it will appear that you’ve died, but it’s possible to be revived using a Self Revive or by receiving assistance from teammates. When you respawn, you’ll see that your character’s feet have disappeared and they’re essentially holding an invisible gun. In this bugged state, it’s possible to eliminate other players and survive the gas until a match ends. Simply put, this invisibility glitch is a temporary God-mode cheat for Warzone.
Despite the very pervasive and massive impact of this shortcoming, Warzone’s co-developers at Treyarch and Infinity Ward have yet to mention the glitch, or a resolution to it, on Twitter. The same goes for Activision Support social media as well, which has yet to call attention to the flaw. In past instances when glitches were causing problems in Warzone, these accounts were fairly active about the status of the problem. In that sense, it’s strange to see such silence as of Thursday morning. Recent reports from players suggest the invisibility glitch is still active at the time of this article’s publication.
As those who’ve spent time in Warzone will know, this is hardly the first time a high-profile glitch has caused major disruptions for fair players. Over the last few months alone, the game has been impacted by the appearance and reappearance of a Stim glitch that allowed users to spam unlimited heals to survive the deadly gas till the end of a match. Those problems were typically solved in a handful of hours, so we’re hopeful that this one will follow a similar trajectory. After all, having complete God mode to both kill and survive is basically a worst-case scenario in the ongoing battle against multiplayer cheaters.
It’s been a rough few hours for Call of Duty players, as many have experienced a wide variety of bugs following the Wednesday launch of Black Ops Cold War Season 1. Mere minutes after the new Battle Pass went live, errors prevented PC players from accessing the new content, and those on PS5 endured frustrating hitching issues. As the saga continues with this Warzone invisibility glitch, this most recent chapter is probably the most frustrating of all.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
