Several outlets did, however, receive CD Projekt Red’s latest game and posted their reviews on Monday. While there’s plenty of praise for Cyberpunk 2077 going around, a common element among a few reviews is that the main storyline isn’t as long as you’d expect. Oh, and then there are all the bugs that critics have been experiencing.
According to many reviewers, the version of Cyberpunk 2077 that they were provided was for PC, and a pre-release build that didn’t have the upcoming Day 0 update that CD Projekt Red is planning, which affected their experiences—some more than others, as you’ll read.
Here’s what the critics are saying about Cyberpunk 2077.
IGN - 9/10
IGN’s Tom Marks reviewed Cyberpunk 2077 and lauded the game’s environment and how it gives players the ability to customize their experience, like a great RPG should.
However, Marks feels that there are too many bugs, and that they can derail some of the enjoyment of the game. Marks is confident that CD Projekt Red will smooth out the bugs and issues that he experiences during his gameplay, but feels like that the game will be more polished six months after release.
“Apart from the surprisingly short but still utterly compelling central questline that draws you through its diverse near-future cityscape, the vast majority of what you can do in Night City is entirely optional but often still extremely impactful on your journey,” Marks writes. “This more freeform structure isn’t without its faults, including loads of distracting bugs, but the strength of the missions themselves — optional or not — and the choice you have within them make Cyberpunk 2077 one of the most exciting, emotional, and just plain fun RPGs I’ve played in recent years.”

THE VERGE - NO RATING
Adi Robertson took on review duties for The Verge, and while they enjoyed the game overall, they felt something was missing.
“I’ve been cautiously excited about Cyberpunk 2077 for years, and it’s almost exactly the game I expected: not terribly memorable, but campy and entertaining,” Robertson notes.
Robertson cites “fragments” of a more compelling story in Cyberpunk 2077 that is not fully realized. Whether it’s the characters, character interactions or the overall world, there is plenty to dissect, but something still seems missing.

GAMESPOT - 7/10
Kallie Plagge reviewed the title for Gamespot and in her piece, she shares that she experienced bugs like other reviewers. Unlike with the others, though, the bugs were just about unbearable for her.
Plagge lists a ton of issues that she dealt with while playing, including losing the hacking ability, UI staying on-screen when it’s not supposed to and much more. And while she commends the combat, RPG elements and side characters, the world of Cyberpunk 2077 is a different story.
“It’s hard to get into Cyberpunk 2077’s world in general,” Plagge writes. “So much of it is superficial set dressing, and there’s so much happening all around you—ads going off at all times, gunfights breaking out in the streets, texts coming in about cars you’ll never buy—that a lot of the game feels superfluous.”
