What time does Destiny 2 Shadowkeep and New Light Release?

Destiny 2 Shadowkeep and Destiny 2 New Light are both expected to release around 1 p.m. EDT on October 1. While expansion content may be available to purchase prior to that time, servers will remain offline for maintenance until the release time.

Server maintenance is expected to begin September 30 at 1 p.m. and is presumed to last about 24 hours. It’s possible this testing period may end a bit early, but 1 p.m. on October 1 is the safest estimate for launch. At that time, the 2.6.0.1 patch (expected to be version 1.41 on PS4) will deploy for existing Guardians.

What about preloads?

Just like any major game or expansion release, those who pre-order Destiny 2 Shadowkeep will have the luxury of preloading everything ahead of time.

PC: If you’re playing Shadowkeep or New Light on Steam, it’s possible to preload both expansions as of September 27. Since New Light is a free download, anyone can start preloading it instantly. On PS4 and Xbox One, Shadowkeep and New Light preloads are expected to begin sometime during the 24-hour server maintenance window starting September 30.

How do I download Destiny 2 Shadowkeep?

There are a few different editions of Shadowkeep that players can download with various levels of access to the main expansion and its upcoming seasonal content. Here’s a recap of the key differences.

Destiny 2 Shadowkeep: $34. 99 [PS4] [Xbox] [PC]: This includes the base expansion plus access to the Season of the Undying seasonal activity. The new campaign, its gear and Raid are yours to access. Destiny 2 Shadowkeep Digital Deluxe $59. 99 [PS4] [Xbox] [PC]: This includes everything in the base experience plus an Annual Pass. That means, in addition to Season of the Undying, Deluxe Edition owners will have automatic access to the next three seasons of content. There are also pre-order bonuses as well.

Unlike prior expansions for Destiny 2, Shadowkeep does not require any additional DLC to play. In the future, content seasons can be purchased individually.

What to expect from Shadowkeep & New Light

Shadowkeep has lots of interesting features for Guardians to experience, but here’s a recap of the highlights.

A new campaign: Set on the Moon with scripted missions, special Exotics and more. Armor 2. 0: The armor system has been totally reworked to offer enhanced customization in both stats and look. For the first time ever Guardians will be able to maintain the aesthetic of one piece of armor while using the abilities of another. Finishing moves: These animations are unlocked via gameplay and are designed to make your character look awesome. Artifacts return as a seasonal item that can be leveled up and modded as players see fit. A raised Power level cap of 750.

Destiny 2 New Light is free-to-play and essentially offers access to everything you need to enjoy Shadowkeep.
