The first new Dresden Files novel since 2014’s Skin Game, Peace Talks continues the adventures of private detective and professional wizard Harry Dresden. In Peace Talks, Dresden joins the White Council of wizard’s security team to protect negotiations between the world’s supernatural nations. According to the press release announcing the release date of Peace Talks, “dark political manipulations threaten the very existence of Chicago.”

Dresden announced the completion of Peace Talks in July:

On his website, Butcher has also previewed the coming book trailer for Peace Talks, offering glimpses behind-the-scenes.

“I’m looking forward to a big year in 2020, and I’m very excited to be releasing more of Dresden’s hectic life!” Butcher said in the announcement. “Stop by Jim-Butcher.com as 2020 goes on for free fiction, interviews, character discussions and maybe a surprise or two as the year proceeds!”

“I’m thrilled to share the next Dresden Files book with readers!” Ace Executive Editor Anne Sowards said in the same announcement. “Jim is at the top of his game in Peace Talks; it’s a real page-turner. Plus, the timing couldn’t be better.”

So far, only a text treatment has been revealed for Peace Talks, with a full cover reveal expected in the new year.

Storm Front, the first book in The Dresden Files series, was released in April 2000 and was followed by 14 subsequent entries, which have built out the series’ world of dueling magic factions, which pits wizards against vampire courts, demons, werewolves and other supernatural threats. The last five books in The Dresden Files series all debuted as #1 New York Times bestsellers, making Peace Talks one of the most highly anticipated book releases of next year.

In the last book in The Dresden Files series, Skin Game, Dresden is forced to team up with one of his greatest enemies, Nicodemus Archleone, host to the Fallen Angel Anduriel. Together they break into a high-security vault in an attempt to steal the Holy Grail. The catch: the treasure trover belongs to Hades, Lord of the Underworld.

To celebrate both Peace Talks and the 20th anniversary of The Dresden Files, publisher Ace Books plans a yearlong campaign, including a reissue of Storm Front and the early release of the first few chapters from Peace Talks.

Released by Ace Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House, Peace Talks will be out in bookstores in a $28 hardcover edition on July 14, 2020.
