Netflix subscribers, however, may recognize the actor from a previous project on the streaming service. Earlier this year, the actor starred in Season 3 of Italian historical epic Medici as Piero de’ Medici, the oldest son of the two main characters Lorenzo (played by Daniel Sharman) and Clarice (Synnøve Karlsen).

His Medici role was his first recurring role on TV. Prior to this, he had a role in Paddington 2 as well as an uncredited role in the Hugh Jackman movie Pan.

He filmed Enola Holmes at 16, meaning he was considered an adult on set who did not need a chaperone. Speaking to i-D, Partridge revealed that this led to an awkward moment on set between him and Brown.

The actor said: “Someone came up to me and was like, ‘Sorry, but we can’t actually legally allow you to be sitting in Millie’s tent because she’s a minor,’ even though she’s literally only a few months younger than me.”

Though Partridge is appearing in a major Netflix film, the London-based actor is still in school in Britain, where pupils cannot leave until the age of 18 ( though he told i-D he plans to start acting full time once he leaves school). In fact, he found out he got the role in Enola Holmes just before he had to take an English literature exam.

The actor told MTV News, “I was auditioning for Enola Holmes in the run-up to my GSCEs in England, which are these big exams that you take, and I thought: I should be revising for this, but I’ve got this audition in a week, and this is the most important thing I’ve done so far. I want to do this; the exams can wait.”

He later added: “It was the worst exam I did of the whole of my GCSEs. I did 10, and it was the worst one I got. I’ll take the Enola job over a better grade, that’s for sure.”

After starring in the notorious flop version of Peter Pan early in his career, Partridge’s next project sees him return to the world of the classic J.M. Barrie character. In The Lost Girls, set for release in 2021, Partridge will play Pan himself in a story about the older Wendy. In this film, he will star alongside acting legend (and Oscar winner) Vanessa Redgrave as well as Game of Thrones’ Iain Glen.

However, the actor could return for a second Enola Holmes movie based on the second book in the Nancy Springer series, The Case of the Left-Handed Lady. Asked about a sequel by MTV News, he said, “I think Tewkesbury would quite like to meet Sherlock; I think that would be quite interesting…I think they left the relationship between Enola and Tewkesbury so up in the air that I think there’s so far for it to go… but that’s just me!”

Enola Holmes is streaming now on Netflix.
