As this suggests, the second special, as predicted by Newsweek and many Euphoria fans, will focus on Jules (Hunter Schafer) after she left on the train at the end of Season 1. Per HBO, the second special with follow the character, “over the Christmas holiday as she reflects on the year.”
That episode has now been confirmed to air on Sunday, January 24 on HBO, who will air it at 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CT. Officially, the special will come to HBO Max after it airs on the cable network, though as the first one was released early, “Part 2: Jules” could also follow suit and start streaming earlier in January.
A filming date for Euphoria Season 2, meanwhile, still has not been announced, though is expected in early 2021, meaning that as the special is airing, Season 2 could well be in production.
HBO has released the first poster for the Jules special, which you can see below:
Original article (published December 7): Euphoria on HBO has decided to deal with the long gap between Seasons 1 and 2 caused by COVID-19 by creating two special episodes. The first of these focused on Rue (played by Zendaya) and aired on December 3 on HBO Max and December 6 on HBO. Details on the second one, however, are remarkably thin on the ground, except for a few false reports about its release date and an unverified article about its release date.
When will the second Euphoria special air?
HBO has not announced the release date for the second special yet, but fans should not expect it soon. A few websites reported that the special was set to air on December 13, but this is not the case. A cursory look at the HBO schedule for that day reveals the channel is showing the films Wrath of the Titans and Snow White and the Huntsmen that evening rather than any new Euphoria.
Quite where there this idea that the specials would air back-to-back comes from is unclear. These specials are meant to bridge the gap between Seasons 1 and 2. And with the second season not due to start filming until early 2021, it is not likely to be ready to air until summer of that year.
As such, what seems more likely is that the second special will air in late winter/spring 2021, ready for a release of Season 2 in late spring/summer.
In fact, viewers are unlikely to find out the release date of the second special early next year, a few weeks before the special seems to air.
After all, we learned of the release date of the first special in mid-October, five weeks before the special aired, which suggests that if we were getting the second special in 2020, we would have heard about it by now.
What will the second Euphoria special be about?
HBO has not confirmed anything, but many fans are convinced that the second special will be focused on Jules (Hunter Schafer).
The first special, “Trouble Don’t Last Always,” after all, began with a fantasy sequence starring Rue and Jules as if they had never separated at the end of Season 1, which seems to hint that we will get to see Jules’ side in the next special.
The first promo image also seemed to hint at a Jules special to come. Zendaya posted an image onto her Instagram in October of her reflected in Schafer’s eye, which suggests an image to come of the opposite to set up a Jules special.
Plus, Jules’ story was probably left with the biggest cliffhanger at the end of the first season, meaning that fans are desperate to find out what happened after she got on that train.
Euphoria Season 1 and the first special are streaming now on HBO Max.
