Air Buster Disposal Choices

While you haven’t quite fought him yet, your story with the Air Buster begins once you hit the “Sentenced to Death” objective in Chapter 7. You’ll be asked to dispose of his parts at various consoles, but it helps to know what those parts do before you start making any tough choices.

M Units: Disabling these just gives you more items before your fight. You’ll get some Ethers, Phoenix Downs and High Potions. AI Programming Core: Reduces the Air Buster’s stun attack, and the cores can be sold for 500 Gil each. Big Bomber: Reduces the heavy damage Big Bomber attack and lets you use bombs during the fight.

Overall, your best option is to spend your Keycards on Programming Cores and Big Bombers when you have the chance. You can always buy more items to help you, so disposing the M Units doesn’t do much.

Sector 5 Keycard Locations

You’ll get to the Assembly Hall, watch a cutscene and then enter a room with four Security Officers and two Elite Security Officers. In the left of the area is a chest with the first of five Sector 5 Keycards. Pick it up, and approach the terminal straight ahead. Cloud will then discuss how it can be used to disable the robot’s M units. Do so when prompted, unless you wish to make the encounter more difficult.

Throughout the rest of the mission, you’ll come to four more lab-like rooms with these terminals inside. Once you know what they look like, they’re impossible to miss.

Keycard 2: In room B7 are two Elite Grenadiers and a Security Officer. Go up the ramp to get there and kill the enemies. In the back of the room are two terminals, and Barret and Tifa will stand by each. The Keycard is on a box next to Tifa. This time you’ll have to choose between the Programming Cores and Big Bombers.

Keycard 3: Between B7 and B6, in the back of the room with the Elite Shock Trooper.

Keycard 4: Go up the ramp from the previous spot, and you’ll come to a room with three Elite Security Officers and two Security Officers. You’ll see Tifa standing by a terminal again, and the Keycard is next to her. Now you have three consoles and just two unused Keycards. Select between AI Programming Cores, M Unit and Big Bombers.

Keycard 5 & 6: Go through the door and up the ramp as you’ve been doing. You’ll come to a room with two Elite Security Officers and two Elite Grenadiers. There are two Keycards here: one on a box next to an M unit and another is on the floor in the opposite corner of the room.

After a fairly simple button-press puzzle you’ll enter this disposal room where you’ll be able to pick up your chosen rewards from canisters.

Some Basic Air Buster Fight Tips

It helps to have two characters running Cure in this fight. Make heavy use of Barret here, putting Elemental and Electric Materia on the Light Machine Gun weapon. He’ll be your main source of damage,so keep him alive at all costs. Having one character run Barrier Materia helps as well. The basic strategy is to let Barret do most of the attacking while Tifa and Cloud do everything possible to keep him alive. Use Cloud and Tifa when the Air Buster is staggered or when Barret is too occupied to fight.
