According to the announcement trailer, Fire Emblem Engage takes place in a world a thousand years after four heroes from four kingdoms worked to seal away a Fell Dragon. It’s set to return to wreak havoc on the world, as massive evil beasts are wont to do. The solution? Collect a series of Emblem Rings found throughout the world. Only then will you be able to maintain peace and order in the continent of Elyos.

The previous Fire Emblem title, Three Hopes, wasn’t a main entry, but instead a spin-off of the wildly popular 2019 entry Fire Emblem: Three Houses and successor to Fire Emblem Warriors. It combined action and role-playing elements with hack-and-slash gameplay while allowing players to control a brand new protagonist named Shez, who could be male or female.

The Nintendo Direct trailer didn’t shine too much light on the inner workings of Fire Emblem Engage, but there was plenty of gameplay to soak up during the presentation. This entry will include real-time strategic battles in addition to an open world with turn-based combat. There will be plenty of customizable characters in addition to the return of Fire Emblem mainstays as well, like Marth.
