What time is Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5 expected to start?

According to the Season 5 splash screen that displayed after the Devourer of Worlds event, Fortnite Season 5 is expected to begin downtime at 12 a.m. EST November 2. Downtime will last about four hours, meaning servers will go online at their usual time around 4 a.m. EST.

What do we know about season 5 so far?

Compared to previous seasons, information on Chapter 2 Season 5 is pretty light. That being said, one dataminer was able to pull this image from an unintentional update to the Epic Games Store exactly one week ago. In the official image, we see that Fortnite Season 5 appears to have some sort of sci-fi or space theme. There’s a female character in pink armor on the left, an alien creature on the right and, of course, the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda (or Grogu to his friends) situated prominently in the center.

So will this season be a Star Wars-themed offering similar to the massive Marvel crossover for Season 4? Not quite. While there will likely be some trappings from the galaxy far, far away, such as a Mandalorian point of interest on the new map, it appears Mando will be more in line with Wolverine, Aquaman and Deadpool and will instead be offered as a Battle Pass exclusive within the larger season. Regardless of how that looks, these three characters will likely play a role in what comes next.

Other than that one image, though, the rest is a bit tenuous. YouTuber Tabor Hill, who has been known to have correct leak sources in the past, has mentioned something about a skin that’s a massive baby chicken with a beanie hat. There’s also been discussion about some sort of tameable wolf creature as well. As cool as these details are, Hill was quick to qualify that these items might find their way into a future season beyond Season 5 too. Last but not least, some leakers believe Season 5 might involve a return of the Chapter 1 map or the return of several classic locations given that old map files were recently updated.

Because Season 5 begins December 2, it’s also impossible to ignore how the upcoming winter season will presumably play a role in future updates. After all, Galactus and Thor began their Nexus journey in an effort to stop a threat called Black Winter, so we’d be shocked if that namesake didn’t have some ties to map changes and presumed winter events. While there’s not much datamined evidence of this to be found, the relationship is too obvious to ignore. Other than the Season 5 Mandalorian twist, there’s still plenty left to the imagination about the next Battle Pass.

Fortnite is available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, PC and Android.
