What players didn’t expect was a single-player cutscene that takes place in an office popping in and out as the waves descended. This clean office with family pictures on the wall and “top secret” folders on the desk didn’t make a whole lot of sense. The cutscenes weren’t really explained and we don’t quite know what is going to happen as the game progresses.
And on top of all that, “Agent Jonesy” skin was found in the files during the event by data miners, but what that skin is or how players will obtain it still remains a mystery. The description for the skin is “espionage suits him well.”
Here are some theories as to what happened during the Device event and what that office actually was:
Agent Jonesy - The easiest and most predictable theory is that Jonesy is actually a member of a secret organization that created the device and didn’t expect that level of power. When Jonesy sees you in his office, with his pictures on the walls, he gets shocked and confused at what he is watching. Somehow, the device, which needed to have its “actuator set to 7. 2,” according to the in-game dialogue, managed to transport you into his office before zooming back. Meta Developers - The entire event could have sent your player avatar to the Epic Games’ offices and had you enter the real world. Jonesy is the default skin in the game and a mascot, so it only makes sense for him to be the one to greet you in his office. If the developers are acknowledging that their creations can come into the real world, that would really shake up the concept of what Fortnite is. Bikini Bottom - That whole event was just an excuse to add Spongebob Squarepants skins to the game while we are underwater. The might of Neptune is actually keeping the walls together and soon Patrick will show up just to take on even more enemies. (I’m half-kidding but kind of hope that this will be the endgame. )
