For the true Fortnite aficionados, though, there’s an additional treat in store beyond jamming out to some sweet, sweet music. Regardless if you get to see the set or not, any Fortnite player who logs into the game between May 8 at 6 p.m. EDT and May 11 at 10 a.m. EDT will get the Neon Wings Back Bling for free. This awesome, music-sensitive Back Bling was surfaced by leakers some time ago, and the Fortnite faithful have long been wondering when it might be used. When last week’s Major Lazer surprise carried on without any mention of Neon Wings, the mystery compounded. Thanks to Steve Aoki and his pals, all questions have now been answered.
This weekend’s Party Royale concert will be the second event to be featured on the Main Stage over the past two weeks. Last Friday at 9 p.m. Diplo of Major Lazer gathered a virtual crowd in a special lobby to perform songs like “Rave de Favela,” “Leon On” and “Believer.” It’s unclear what songs this week’s trio of artists will play, but we imagine the event will manage to turn more than a few heads nonetheless.
Party Royale is a new freeform game mode added to Fortnite in update 12.50 last week. It’s officially described as “a new experimental and evolving space. Leave your weapons and mats behind.” Actor and Fortnite fan Jordan Fisher pushed that notion one step further, calling it “a place to hang out with your friends, race boats, perfect your skydive, literally whatever you want.” At least for right now, Party Royale seems to be the premier spot for virtual raves during a pandemic. We’ll have a full recap of the event soon after it happens on Friday.
Fortnite is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC and mobile. The Steve Aoki Party Royale event takes place May 8 at 9 p.m. EDT.
