Two main judges have remained since Day 1: Val Garland and Dominic Skinner.

While they welcome a guest judge each week, these two are powerhouses of the makeup world and know what it takes to be a star in the grueling beauty industry.

We break down their work before the show, and who they welcome to judge alongside them in the third season of Glow Up.

Who Is Dominic Skinner?

Dominic Skinner has been in the beauty business for more than 20 years and is currently the Senior Global Artist at MAC Cosmetics.

He studied at an art school and became fascinated with makeup after watching Daryl Hannah’s character Pris in Blade Runner, who smeared paint across her eyes.

Skinner has done makeup on a number of fashion campaigns as well as drag makeup for friends.

He values the relationship between artistry, creativity and the style of makeup, as well as the contributions of texture and color.

Skinner has spoken about his emotional first time attending Pride as a young gay person in the Attitude magazine feature My Pride on Instagram.

Speaking of seeing Holly Johnson perform at his first Pride, he said: “It was quite an emotional, tear-jerking moment.

“It was my first time being surrounded by other gay people. Being a closeted gay kid at school, you don’t know anyone else, so suddenly being in a field surrounded by other gay people, it’s like ’there is life beyond what you know.'”

On Glow Up, he is known for his vibrant sweaters and cardigans, many of which he has auctioned off for charity.

Who Is Val Garland?

Val Garland has been a makeup artist for more than 30 years, working with some of the biggest names in fashion, beauty and entertainment.

She is currently the L’Oréal Paris global makeup director and the contributing beauty editor at British Vogue.

She started out working in hair in Sydney, Australia before moving to London, by which time she had switched from hair to makeup.
