One such example is the “Looking Far Away” quest, which tasks you with replacing the lens in a broken telescope. While cracking the mystery is part of the experience here, if you feel like you have hit a dead end and are growing frustrated, this is how to complete the mission.
Looking Far Away Walkthrough: Telescope Location
The telescope itself is located in the Raven’s Road Camp hub world.
When you first awaken in the recovery room (after the game’s prologue) head outside and immediately turn left. There, you will find a ladder that you can climb to reach the top of a stone tower.
It turns out that this was once a lookout post, used by the villagers for spotting the plague hordes but which is now essentially useless due to its broken telescope. To complete the “Looking Far Away” quest, you will need to restore this apparatus by finding a replacement lens.
Looking Far Away Walkthrough: Where to Find the Telescope Lens
As with all the other quests in the game, the journal description for “Looking Far Away” is not especially helpful.
Providing only the vaguest of hints, it reads: “To be able to see what’s going on outside the camp, I need to find the missing lens from the telescope. Perhaps the others know where I should start looking”.
Following this lead, you can ask around the village but (depending on how far you are into the main story) many of the residents might have already fled, died or changed roles. Luckily, this will not prevent you from completing the telescope restoration project, as you can still easily procure a lens from the merchant Meldamus.
We bumped into this shifty vendor three times during our playthrough. Our first encounter was in Vigga Marshes, followed by a second meeting in Sorkh Ashen, and then a final one during our hunt for the primeval cribe. On each occasion it was impossible to miss him, as he was planted directly in our path towards the main objective.
Meldamus and his pet bird scour the continent of Azur for priceless artifacts and coveted items that they can trade with adventurers. As such, it is not surprising to find the swindler in possession of a key item that you need.
If you browse Meldamus’ wares, you will find that he is selling all manner of useful items, including health elixirs, cooking ingredients, damage boosts and, of course, the telescope lens. The latter will set you back 90 cribe, which is thankfully not too much.
You can amass this currency by slaying enemies, looting treasure chests or by selling valuables that you have scavenged during your travels. If you do not have enough cribe when you find Meldamus, just see if there are any expendable items you are willing to trade with him.
Once you have got the lens, return to Raven’s Road Camp, ascend the lookout tower and interact with the telescope to repair it. Doing so will reward you with the “A View of Azur” achievement, as well as the ability to peer through the telescope and survey the world.
