Taking a leaf out of FromSoftware’s book, the developers at Navegante Entertainment leave you to your own devices for most of the game. As a result, some players might be wondering how they can obtain the medal referred to in the “Scout’s Training” achievement.

To help you out, Newsweek has prepared this guide.

Find Zack to Begin Your Training

To earn the Scout’s Training achievement (or trophy if you are exploring the hand-drawn fantasy on PlayStation) you will first need to speak with Zack in the hub world.

This quest giver can be found at the far right of Raven’s Road camp, near the exit that leads to Zyndra Forest. The dialog options for starting training with Zack will not open until you have spoken with Toros at his airship construction site, so make sure you do that first.

A proficient warrior in his own right, Zack will offer Greak combat training over the course of a three-mission questline. After you complete each of the exercises, you will be deemed worthy of learning another sword maneuver that will help you in future encounters.

Complete the ‘Scout Training’ Quest

The first quest in the series is “Scout Training,” in which you are asked to slay five “plague crawlers.” These rank-and-file grunts are by far the most common enemy type in Memories of Azur, so you won’t have too much trouble hunting them down. You will just stumble across the crawlers when you are embarking on other quests.

Once you have slain five plague crawlers, return to Zack to learn the downward strike move, which inflicts double the damage of a standard quick attack. It can be executed by pushing down on the analog stick and pressing the attack button while jumping.

Complete the ‘Agile Enemy’ Quest

Next, Zack will task you with defeating 10 “plague bats.” These irritating pests can be found all over the game world and are especially prolific in the Vigga Marshes.

Zack will recommend using a crossbow to put down the winged enemies and will even offer some bolts to give you a head start. Alternatively, you can swat them out of the sky with your blade, if you time your dodges properly.

The bats have lengthy animations that telegraph their attacks long before they swoop down, so just jump over them whenever that happens.

Once you have slain 10 of the pests, return to Zack to complete the “Agile Enemy” quest. He will then teach you the uppercut move, which inflicts four times the damage and can be executed by pressing up on the analog stick while attacking.

Complete the ‘Getting Rid of the Plague’ Quest

Finally, Zack will instruct you to defeat five “plague kahans.” These are considerably rarer than the crawlers and the bats, and appear to only spawn in designated locations. We found a handful of them in the lower levels of Velhora Waterfalls, as well as in the Vigga Marshes.

The kahans resemble tigers and are agile and deadly, so make sure you have plenty of healing supplies before you take them on. In terms of battle strategy, we found that the best approach was to go on the offensive and frantically mash the attack button without giving the predators an opportunity to retreat. Uppercuts were particularly effective as well.

Once you have slain enough kahans, return to Zack to complete the “Getting Rid of the Plague” quest. He will then teach you the spin move, which inflicts five times the damage and can be executed by holding down the attack button while remaining stationary.

Having now trained you in everything he knows, Zack will bestow you with the scout medal, in recognition of your combat prowess. The medal is one of the 15 relics needed to unlock the “Courine Legacy” achievement, alongside the map of Azur and the family drawing.

Greak: Memories of Azur is available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch and PC.
