The complication arises while you are exploring Lycer Fortress, in search of a legendary forge, and if you do not resolve it then you will be unable to continue with the main story.
As with many of the other missions in the game, your journal does not give you much to go on here in terms of directions or guidance. All it says is that you will need to collect the ancient gears from somewhere and then fit them into the mechanism.
If you feel like you have explored every crevice of the dungeon to no avail, then this walkthrough will explain exactly where you need to go.
‘Greak: Memories of Azur’ Walkthrough: Ancient Gear Location 1
To find both gears, you will need to head all the way up to the top level of the dungeon using a nearby lift.
Get one of your playable characters to stand on the steel platform, while the other turns an adjacent crank to raise them up. Once the first character has arrived at the top, they will be able to lower the lift down (using an identical crank) for their partner.
Once both of your characters are on the upper level, you will notice that you have a choice between heading left or going into a darkened room on the right (which is next to a save stone). You will need to take both paths eventually but, for the purposes of this walkthrough, go left first.
Next, you will come across a series of metal cages that are suspended from the ceiling and are interconnected via a pulley mechanism. These are recurring puzzles in the Lycer Fortress, so you will need to get used to how they work.
In a nutshell, you can raise or lower a given cage by applying weight to the other one. Think of it like a traditional balancing scale.
In this particular case, you need to jump onto the westernmost cage, weigh it down, and then hop onto a hidden platform to your left. It is important that you take both characters across this gap.
If you keep heading left, you will eventually come across another cage puzzle. This time you will need to have one character weigh down the left cage, while the other person ascends in the cage on the right.
The character on the right can gain more altitude by jumping up and down on the spot. Once they are as high as they can go, they will need to hop onto the nearest platform.
Carry on heading right until you come across a wooden ladder. Climb down this and you will be able to find the first gear.
‘Greak: Memories of Azur’: Ancient Gear Location 2
With the first gear in your possession, you must now return to the lift from earlier and head into that darkened room next to the save point.
The first thing you will notice is that the next area is completely flooded, although that does not particularly factor into the puzzles that much. If you jump up the platforms on your right, you will spot the next gear, only to find that it is blocked off by a gated door.
To get around this, you will have to take a bit of a detour.
Above the water, there are two nearby cages. Place a character in each of them.
On this occasion, the person on the right is acting as the counterweight while the person on the left will need to ascend to the higher level.
Once you reach the top, you will be able to lower down a ladder for your partner using a crank. Make sure that you do this.
Taking control of both party members again, you will need to head right (fighting several enemies along the way) until you eventually come across yet another cage puzzle.
This time, the person on the left will need to go high, so that they can jump onto a nearby platform. From there, they will be able to climb down a ladder and reach the second gear.
