Out today and free for anyone with a copy of Grand Theft Auto V, “Gerald’s Last Play” asks players to help the South Los Santos drug dealer for The Families gang to close major deals, as Gerald fights to get out of the drug game with a few big scores.
An associate of Lamar Davis (who is Franklin Clinton’s best friend in the GTA V single-player campaign), Gerald is one of the first mission-giving characters players will encounter when beginning GTA Online. After ambushing rival drug dealers for Gerald in a series of missions, players are instructed to help bust him from police custody in 2015’s “Lowriders” update. Now, players will be able to work with Gerald once more, taking on rival gangs in the new series of missions.
The six new missions coming to Grand Theft Auto Online in the “Gerald’s Last Stand” update include raids on a slaughterhouse (“Make Ends Meat”), reprisals against a biker gang (“Fast Peddling”), an assault on a rival gang leader (“Bad Companies”) and a unique smuggling opportunity that presents itself when Gerald gets a tip about cocaine stashed inside a collection of action figures (“Go Figure”).
“Gerald’s Last Play” missions can be played in any order, by yourself or with up to four other players. According to information released by Rockstar, the new missions are designed for quick, pick-up-and-play action, comparable to missions introduced in 2018’s “Madrazo Dispatch Services” and April 2019’s “Simeon’s Premium Deluxe Repo Work”—the latter of which was the most recent update until now to feature new main missions, known in-game as “Contact Missions.”
In 2019, major content updates for GTA Online included “The Diamond Casino & Resort” and the follow-up “Diamond Casino Heist.” While 2020 has seen the introduction of new vehicles (including an amphibious ATV, a dune buggy and a Tron-esque motorcycle), open-wheel racing tracks and multiple events (like an in-game show by Danny Brown), the new Gerald missions update is one of the biggest releases of the year so far.
To play the new missions assigned by Gerald, respond to his texts or visit his apartment in Strawberry, Los Santos (it will appear as the letter “G” on your map); doing so will activate Gerald’s missions in the Jobs menu.
Thursday’s update to Grand Theft Auto Online also includes Double GTA$ and Reputation Points in Contact Missions, a triple bonus on cash RP in Open Wheel Races, plus major discounts on in-game real estate and select videos.
