The Real Madrid midfielder caused a Twitter meltdown on Sunday with a message that alluded to his nation’s famous 7-1 World Cup victory over the 2014 hosts.
His tweet caused uproar amongst Brazilians, including former Selecao star Ronaldo who hit back with his own New Year’s jibe.

“Happy New YearToni Kroos,” Ronaldo wrote on Facebook, accompanying his post with a picture of the 2002 World Cup final.
And while Kroos’ message replaced the 7 and 1 in 2017 with German and Brazilian flags respectively, O Fenomeno substituted the numbers 2 and 0 to mirror that famous scoreline.
Ronaldo scored both goals in that clash, and his speedy retort to Kroos was another top-corner screamer from the legendary striker!
