Mrs. Duran denied any knowledge of her husband’s involvement with a paramilitary citizens’ group in Colorado Springs. But she said Duran told her he ““wanted to be in the history books.''

In early October, Mrs. Duran said, she received bills for purchases made by her husband in San Antonio. Duran had an ““old army buddy’’ there, she said, but she didn’t know if Duran had contacted him. Investigators, she said, have told her he used aliases on the road, including Franco Duran, Frank Duran, Steve Dykes and Stephen Dykes.

Mrs. Duran visited her husband in prison in early November. ““He was amazed to see me,’’ she said. She doesn’t think he acted alone: ““Other people should be punished, too.’’ The investigation is ongoing.
