With the inevitable chatter from the series, it makes sense that Friday saw Unsolved Mysteries leading Netflix’s Top 10 board. Alongside it was a handful of movies and new series, ready to be watched by any lazy weekend patron. And alongside those, were some pretty inexplicable surprises, like the Adam Sandler flick, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.

1. Unsolved Mysteries

Netflix is asking for the help of viewers to solve cases that have gone cold. From missing people to murders, Unsolved Mysteries tells the stories of horrific events with no clear answers. Some of the cases have likely suspects, who have yet to be arrested. Others have much bigger mysteries with no likely assailant. There’s even an odd UFO encounter that shocked an entire town. It’s a true crime lover’s perfect binge, and as a viewer, you may even be able to help bring justice to the forgotten stories.

The Lorax

Dr. Seuss’s classic story The Lorax is now streaming. The 2012 animated film, starring Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Danny DeVito, Ed Helms and Betty White is a perfect family movie night option. Not only is it a fun, whimsical story, but it addresses darker parts of society, specifically the concepts of climate change and deforestation.

Warrior Nun

Netflix just released Season 1 of this supernatural thriller, and the series is already being compared to some of Netflix’s greats. The Guardian questioned if Warrior Nun could be the “next Stranger Things,” and some internet users agree. The plot follows a woman named Ava who suddenly discovers she has superpowers.

The Babysitter’s Club

Season 1 of this childhood classic story just hit Netflix in a fresh new form, but it may be nostalgic for many. Based on the wildly popular book series, The Babysitter’s Club follows a group of friends who start their own babysitting business. While it’s reminiscent of the books, of course, there are some modern-day changes that make it even more fun.

Desperados

What happens when a woman sends a nasty email to the guy she’s dating, only to find out he was in a horrible accident? An epic adventure. Saturday Night Live’s Nasim Pedrad stars in this comedy about dating, technology and unique friendships. An added bonus: New Girl fans are in for a treat as Lamorne Morris appears in the film, too.

Only

If you’re incessantly anxious about coronavirus, you may want to skip this one. This dark series follows a fictional couple who is forced to self-isolate when a virus threatens the women of earth. This film wasn’t designed for Covid-19. It actually premiered at Tribeca in 2019, according to the Observer. But its Netflix release timing makes the film even more spooky.

Floor Is Lava

For something a bit more lighthearted, you can watch groups of adults try to complete this comedic, strategic obstacle course. It plays on the childhood idea that the “floor is lava,” as rules specify the contestants can’t fall in the fiery liquid, surrounding them on all sides.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry

This Adam Sandler comedy follows two friends who get married, just for financial purposes. As their story gains attention, the two men have to keep up with the act in order to complete their plan. While the movie was released in 2007, it’s just been uploaded to Netflix. Most Twitter users don’t seem to understand why the film is gaining attention on Netflix now.

The Town

Another older movie was uploaded recently, and being rewatched by avid Netflix viewers. The Town, starring Ben Affleck, was released in 2010. It takes a look inside a group of bank robbers, a hostage situation and a true love: but how will it all fall together?

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich

It’s great timing to jump into this Netflix original series, as Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s last known girlfriend, was just arrested for her alleged involvement in his crimes. Epstein’s survivors speak out in the four-part series about the financer’s sex trafficking and abuse.
