SHARON: Look, no doubt I’ll have to deal with that. And as I said, it’s very complicated. But if I go on what Barak says, that [the election] is a referendum [on the peace deal], if he loses I don’t have to do that [honor it]. It’s very simple."

The concept would be nonbelligerency, something long term with no timetable but with a list of expectations.

Then I would regard it as a major historical mistake that endangers the future of the state of Israel.

Look, we live in a democracy. Whatever the people will decide, they’ll decide… I would like again to emphasize that no one of us, not Barak and not myself, has the right to hand over Jerusalem. No one. Jerusalem doesn’t belong to us the Israelis, it belongs to Jews all around the world.

I must tell you, I felt respect for Arafat when he said that when it comes to Jerusalem, he has to discuss it with the Muslim world. And on the other side, Barak, one man, without discussing that with the inner cabinet, without getting the approval of the government, without bringing this issue to Parliament, not being a prime minister even, not having the majority in Parliament, one man decides to hand over Jerusalem. It’s unbelievable.

You have to go, you have to wait for them there and to do what you have to do. Look, the imagination is unlimited.

Of course, of course. If they don’t do it [crack down on their own militants], we have to do it.

I’m not carrying any mark of Cain for the tragedy. That was a sanction that was taken then and that happened many years ago… So I don’t have any problem with it.
