“Bum ride, for sure, but we have the best cast and crew on television and we’re going to keep fighting with all the love in our dumb hearts to find a new home for Lodge 49,” the show’s creator, Jim Gavin, tweeted in response to the cancellation. “Join us.”

Lodge 49 follows the members of a fictional fraternal order in Long Beach, California, as they plumb the mysteries of life while also dealing with the financial and spiritual hardships of working-class life in the United States. While featuring a sprawling ensemble, Lodge 49 centers around Sean “Dud” Dudley (Wyatt Russell), a former surfer and pool boy left homeless and emotionally devastated after the death of his father. Dud’s enthusiasm for the Lodge’s alternative community transforms its members into mythic, almost Arthurian figures, each determined to find a better way to live.

Executive producer Paul Giamatti, who also appeared in the second season as pulp thriller author (and hollow Earth believer) L. Marvin Metz, has gone a step further, taking his fictional persona to Reddit to rally support for the return of Lodge 49.

“YOU GREAT AND NOBLE KNIGHTS!!!!! NYT BESTSELLING AUTHOR L MARVIN METZ SEZ: DO NOT DESPAIR!!!!! BUT MAKE A HELL OF ALOT OF NOISE: LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD!!!!! IT WILL HELP!!! THE BOZOS OF AMC CAN GO JUMP IN A LAKE!!!!!,” Giamatti posted, in character as the irrepressible, overconfident author. He then dove into the comments to muster support for the series and made a “solemn vow” to do everything in his power to “keep the lodge open.”

Comedian Patton Oswalt and Succession cast member J. Smith-Cameron have also called for another streaming outlet to continue Lodge 49.

“We are so proud to have had Lodge 49 on our air,” AMC said in a statement released to Deadline. “This wonderful show gave audiences fresh and unforgettable characters in a world that did not exist anywhere else on television. Thanks to the stellar cast including Wyatt Russell, Sonya Cassidy and Brent Jennings and to our partners in this unique labor of love, Jim Gavin, Peter Ocko and Paul Giamatti for two remarkable seasons that initiated the world into the Ancient and Benevolent Order of the Lynx.”

While drawing a relatively modest viewership, Lodge 49 has earned both a dedicated following and widespread critical acclaim, particularly for the series’ second season. In an interview with Newsweek, Gavin and Lodge 49 showrunner Ocko described their plans for a third season, suitably attuned to the alchemical symbolism so important to the series.

“Our first season was our water season, our second was our fire season, and the third season is our earth season,” Gavin said.

“There’s an El Confidente painting that Connie sees that depicts three dragons attacking the Lodge,” Ocko told Newsweek, referencing a character played by Cheech Marin, whose amateurish paintings inevitably become reality on the series, often in unexpected ways. “In our bigger story, we do see antagonists arriving to threaten our king in the upcoming season.”

But to learn the true nature of the three dragons, or the secrets behind a mysterious door embedded in a brick wall above the Lodge parking lot, first we must #SaveLodge49.
